In the busy days at the end of the year, if your family is looking for a type of food that is quick to prepare and goes well with rice, don’t overlook duck meat. Unlike other meats, duck has a unique flavor whether boiled, roasted, or used in a hot pot that cannot be confused with any other dish.
Duck is not only delicious but also provides essential nutrients for your family. Studies show that in 100g of duck meat, there is approximately 25g of protein, comparable to beef, pork, and goat. Additionally, the levels of nutrients such as calcium, phosphorus, iron, vitamins (B1, B2, A, D, E), and nicotinic acid are also very high.
Duck is not only delicious but also provides essential nutrients for the family.
According to general practitioner Bui Duc Sang from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, eating duck meat at least once a week can help everyone supplement nutrition and extend life.
From a traditional medicine perspective, duck meat is sweet, slightly salty, and has a cooling nature. It helps to clear heat, detoxify, nourish yin, and reduce fire. It is particularly effective for diseases with fever, measles, eliminating heat, relieving constipation, and for women with scant menstruation…
Regular consumption of duck meat can help nourish yin, support the stomach, and promote bowel movements. Duck meat not only aids in blood enrichment but also nourishes the stomach and boosts energy production, making it particularly suitable for those with weak constitutions or recovering from illness.
What benefits does eating duck meat at the end of the year bring?
Using the familiar ingredient of duck meat, we can prepare various remedies and dishes that are effective in treating diseases. Here are some examples:
1. Good for bronchitis and asthma
Method: Use one old female duck, 300g fresh lily bulbs, and seasoning. Clean the duck and remove the insides, place the lily bulbs inside the duck’s belly, drizzle with 2 tablespoons of wine, season, and tightly close the duck. Steam until cooked. Consume the meat, insides, and lily bulbs.
Duck meat is a delicious and nutritious food.
2. Good for anemia and weakness
Method: One duck, 49 dates, 49 lotus seeds, 49 ginkgo nuts, and 3g ginseng. Clean the duck, pit the dates, soak and peel the lotus seeds, remove the shells and insides of the ginkgo nuts, and chop the ginseng into small pieces. Use wine, soy sauce, and oil to coat the skin and inside of the duck, then fill it with all four ingredients, sew it up, and stew until cooked.
3. Treat headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and swelling
Method: One duck, 200g red beans, 10g cardamom, and raw onions. Clean the duck, soak and mash the red beans with the cardamom, mix them well, and put them into the duck’s belly. Sew it up, boil it until soft, add onions, without salt, and consume to effectively treat the ailment.
4. Treat hypertension, headaches, and dizziness
Method: 100g duck meat cooked for 30 minutes, 30g Chinese Angelica, and 30g white fungus. Add the ingredients and cook for another 15 minutes before consumption.

Duck meat will be even more nutritious when cooked with the following foods:
If you want to enjoy delicious duck meat while maximizing its benefits, Bui Duc Sang recommends that families can prepare duck together with the following ingredients:
Lotus seeds: Duck meat is very nutritious and high in fat, so eating it with lotus seeds can help reduce cholesterol levels in the blood, making it particularly beneficial for overall health.
Eating duck with lotus seeds can reduce cholesterol levels in the blood.
Chinese cabbage: Duck meat contains a lot of protein, fat, and cholesterol, so eating it with vegetables high in vitamin C like Chinese cabbage can promote cholesterol metabolism in the blood, benefiting health.
Chinese yam: Families eating duck with Chinese yam can reduce blood cholesterol levels and significantly enhance nourishment.
Porridge: Duck porridge can reduce body fat and help eliminate excess substances.
Honeysuckle: Duck meat is famous for its anti-inflammatory properties, detoxification, and treatment of skin issues. Honeysuckle also has detoxifying effects, helping to clear skin imperfections. Consuming these two together will provide a “precious medicine” for the skin.
Rich in monounsaturated fats
Duck fat is rich in monounsaturated fats, which help reduce LDL cholesterol, also known as “bad cholesterol,” making it suitable for those with blood fat issues. The quality of duck fat is similar to olive oil, making it a better choice compared to other animal fats. Many professional chefs prefer duck fat for its health benefits and rich flavor.
Good for skin and hair
Duck meat provides necessary fats for the body, helping to maintain moisture and elasticity for the skin, keeping it youthful and smooth. A lack of fat can lead to issues such as dry, wrinkled, and dull skin.
Duck meat is also high in riboflavin (vitamin B2), which helps maintain hair health and prevent hair loss. Each 100g of roasted duck meat contains 0.5mg of riboflavin, meeting 28% of the daily requirement.
Supports immune system and promotes wound healing
The zinc minerals in duck meat help boost the immune system, protecting the body from pathogens like bacteria and viruses, while also supporting the wound healing process.
Duck meat also contains antioxidants, which help protect the body from free radicals – the cause of many diseases.
