Researchers in Malaysia have discovered new evidence suggesting that cinnamon may help alleviate diabetes by lowering blood sugar levels.
This three-year study conducted by the Malaysia Technical University has shown that this common spice has beneficial effects on Type II diabetes patients, which typically develops in adulthood.
Mr. Mohammad Rojo, the leader of this research project, stated that many doctors around the world have used cinnamon to treat diarrhea and rheumatism due to its ability to improve circulation, heal wounds, and prevent ulcers and allergies.
He mentioned: “In the past decade, laboratory studies have also found that cinnamon extract has effects similar to insulin in cells.”
Insulin functions to regulate the body’s ability to use blood sugar, but individuals with diabetes have cells that have lost the ability to respond to this hormone.
