Microsoft is set to unveil a new search engine that promises to be even more powerful than Google within the next six months, launching initially in the United States and the United Kingdom, according to Neil Holloway, President of Microsoft Europe.
Currently, Microsoft does not plan to integrate its new search tool into Windows Vista, the upcoming version of the Windows operating system that will replace Windows XP early next year. However, it is likely that the tech giant will incorporate the search engine into Windows Messenger and Hotmail, as there are currently millions of users utilizing both services worldwide.
Microsoft aims to provide precise links rather than focusing solely on the information specified by Internet users. Holloway noted, “According to surveys, 50% of the time users searching for information fail to find the URL they are looking for.” The capabilities of Microsoft’s search engine will be enhanced to be more user-friendly.
For example, real estate buyers will be able to search for a group of houses based on price ranges along with the amenities they desire, or web surfers can find restaurants with menus featuring specific regional specialties they prefer.
