This reptile species inhabits the mountainous region of Chà Nòi in Phong Nha – Kẻ Bàng National Park. Commonly known as the ear lizard, its scientific name is Tripidophrus nogeler.
The ear lizard is typically found on cliffs near streams or hidden under rocks by water crevices. This species was discovered by German scientist Thomas Zegler, who noted that there are currently 25 known species of ear lizards worldwide.
The majority of these ear lizard species reside on the mainland and islands of Southeast Asia, with seven species found specifically in Vietnam. The Tripidophrus nogeler is recognized as the 26th species of ear lizard in the world.
