Along with this warning, Microsoft has released a patch specifically addressing the aforementioned vulnerability as part of this month’s security bulletin. Additionally, the company founded by Bill Gates has also announced another security flaw rated as “dangerous” at a Level 2 within Microsoft Windows.
Traditionally, a vulnerability is considered “dangerous” when it allows outsiders to breach a computer system and access confidential data, yet it cannot replicate itself to other computers.
In contrast, a vulnerability classified as “Critical” allows a worm or internet virus to propagate and proliferate without any user intervention.
The Windows operating system currently runs on over 90% of the world’s computers; therefore, any vulnerability or security flaw labeled as “Critical” related to Windows can have significant implications.
Over the past three years, Microsoft has made considerable efforts to enhance the safety, security, and reliability of its software as increasingly more malware targets Windows, Internet Explorer, and Office. However, it seems that these efforts are still just a drop in the bucket.
