A scientist from Myanmar has contributed to the discovery of a new gene in humans that plays a role in the production of hemoglobin.
Dr. Barry Paw, a member of the research team at a medical school in the United States, stated that the team has uncovered how this gene transfers iron to red blood cells to form hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is responsible for transporting oxygen from the lungs to various parts of the body, including the muscles.

Dr. Paw mentioned that researchers are currently hoping to develop changes in the gene that could lead to conditions such as iron deficiency or iron overload.
