According to statistics from the Central Children’s Hospital and the Poison Control Department of Bach Mai Hospital, there has been an increasing trend in cases of children suffering from Paracetamol poisoning over the past two months. On average, 5 to 7 cases of Paracetamol poisoning are admitted to the emergency department weekly at these two medical facilities.
This situation arises primarily due to the rise in fever-related illnesses during the seasonal transition, leading to an increased use of Paracetamol for fever reduction. However, many individuals are inadvertently overdosing or using the medication over extended periods, resulting in toxic effects.
Patients experiencing poisoning exhibit symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and sweating. In severe cases, liver or kidney failure can occur, potentially leading to death.
Doctors recommend administering Paracetamol only when a child’s fever exceeds 38.5 degrees Celsius and advise not to exceed four doses per day.
