Blood donation scene in Hanoi |
At a press conference on March 24, in celebration of “National Volunteer Blood Donation Day 7.4”, Director of the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Nguyen Anh Tri, stated that the quality of collected blood is still not high. The reason is that the amount of blood obtained from voluntary donors is only 54%.
Vietnam aims to increase the percentage of voluntary, unpaid blood donors to 70% by 2010. Nearly 2,500 people have registered to donate blood at the event “One Drop of Blood, One Heart”, which will take place on April 4 in Hanoi.
Blood donation helps increase the supply of blood for hospitals to treat and care for patients, as well as to prepare for emergencies.
The amount of blood in each person’s body is approximately 70ml per kg of body weight. Therefore, a person weighing 50kg has about 3,500ml of blood, while a person weighing 65kg has about 4,500ml. Studies and practical evidence have shown that if you donate less than 1/10 of your blood volume (between 350 – 450ml) according to medical guidelines, it is completely safe for your health.
