The current raw images feature only two colors, while these new, multi-colored maps will provide a view of Jupiter as seen by the naked eye. They include a cylindrical map of the planet, along with its northern and southern polar maps.
These maps reveal various forms of colorful clouds, including parallel bands of reddish-brown and white, numerous small vortices, and many oval-shaped white spirals, as well as wave-like formations and streaks.
Cassini entered orbit around Saturn on July 1, 2004. The Cassini-Huygens mission is a collaborative project between NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Italian Space Agency (ASI).
