According to Oddity Central, at the sand dunes of Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Moon Spring Nature Park in Gansu Province, Northwest China, visitors can witness functioning traffic lights amidst the desert.
During the annual holiday at the beginning of May, thousands flock to these natural tourist spots to engage in various activities, the most popular of which is undoubtedly camel riding.
In 2023, approximately 2,400 camels served tens of thousands of tourists daily at the Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Moon Spring scenic area alone. However, the crowding has led to serious issues of traffic congestion in the desert. Fortunately, local authorities have devised an impressive solution – traffic lights for camels.

With the installation of traffic lights, camels must stop to allow pedestrians to pass, which has partially resolved the congestion issue. When the traffic light shows green, camels can proceed; when it turns red, they stop to let pedestrians cross first.

At least 240 million Chinese people traveled nationwide during this year’s May holiday. Many rushed to famous scenic spots. Some attractions were so crowded that officials had to announce temporary suspensions of visitor entry.
