Water fern and water cabbage can be used to treat certain ailments such as rashes and edema. Dried and smoked water fern is also effective for repelling mosquitoes.

For skin rashes that appear as small, red bumps, take a handful of water cabbage, remove the roots, and combine it with a piece of arrowroot (about the size of a corn cob). Boil this mixture to obtain a bowl of hot water (a rice bowl) to drink while wrapping yourself in a blanket to induce sweating. Repeat once a day until recovery.
2. Treating Edema
If you are suffering from edema with significant swelling and reduced urine output, take dried water cabbage (or water fern), dry it until crispy, and crush it into powder. Take one spoonful each time, twice a day, and mix it with mulberry root water. When you start to urinate more, the swelling will decrease.
3. Newly Swollen Boils
For newly swollen boils that are hot and tender but do not yet have pus, take water cabbage or water fern, pound it into a paste, and mix it with egg white and a pinch of salt to apply to the swelling.
This method is also very effective for new burns that are red and swollen.
4. Repelling Mosquitoes
If there are many mosquitoes in the house, use dried water cabbage to create smoke in the evening; mosquitoes will be scared off and fly away.
