On April 7, the Bình Định Museum announced that, with the approval of the Heritage Department, the Bình Định Provincial People’s Committee, and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, preparations are underway for archaeological excavations at the Cánh Tiên Tower site.
This ancient Champa tower is located in Nhơn Hậu commune, An Nhơn district (Bình Định) and is one of the 7 out of 13 remaining Champa towers in Bình Định that have been recognized as National Heritage Sites. The Cánh Tiên Tower is one of the most beautiful and renowned Champa towers in Bình Định. However, over time and due to the devastation of war, the tower has significantly deteriorated. The purpose of this archaeological excavation is to investigate the area surrounding the tower to extract, measure, compare, and understand its structural construction. According to the excavation plan, the archaeological work at the Cánh Tiên Tower is scheduled to commence from mid-April to May 2006.
