On March 13, Mozilla released an update aimed at fixing several security vulnerabilities and enhancing support for Intel-based Mac systems in the Firefox browser.
According to Burning Edge, a website dedicated to tracking the development of Firefox, the most critical security flaw addressed in this update could allow a malicious attacker to gain control over a user’s system.
Most of the security vulnerabilities patched were related to Firefox version 1.5.0.2. However, the developers indicated that they would release a similar patch for version 1.5 within the next two days.
“We believe this is indeed an important upgrade and recommend users update as soon as possible,” stated Mike Schroepfer, Vice President of Mozilla, in an official statement. “This is one of our most stable and comprehensive updates. This patch actively addresses a range of security, operational, and stability issues with the browser.”
Specific details regarding the security vulnerabilities that were fixed have not yet been disclosed. However, a representative from Mozilla mentioned that the company will promptly release this information.
In addition to fixing security issues, this update also includes several enhancements aimed at improving browser stability and adding support for Mac systems that utilize Intel processors.
