The Quang Tri Forest Protection Sub-Department, the Dakrong Nature Reserve Management Board, and the Mitsuri Botanical Garden (USA) recently collaborated to organize an international training course on plant conservation at the Dakrong Nature Reserve in Quang Tri Province.
Participating in the training course titled “Initiatives in Plant Conservation and International Training to Enhance Management Capacity of Natural Reserves in Indochina” were 28 teachers and students, including 3 participants from Laos and Cambodia, along with 16 students from various national parks and nature reserves in Vietnam.
The main content of this training course focused on studying the diversity of plant species in the Dakrong Nature Reserve and the northern Huong Hoa forest region, investigating the diversity of medicinal plants and traditional remedies used by the Van Kieu and Pa Ko ethnic groups, and analyzing the market for non-timber forest products in the buffer zones of the Dakrong Nature Reserve.
Participants also studied and discussed the application of Global Positioning System (GPS) software, specifically Mapinfo, in researching and assessing the vegetation of the Dakrong Nature Reserve.
