According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), prior to this decision, HP received around 20 reports of batteries overheating from various regions, which resulted in one person suffering minor burns.
The recalled batteries are lithium-ion rechargeable batteries released in January of last year and are used in many HP and Compaq laptop models. This batch of batteries will have a barcode starting with the sequence L3.
According to the CPSC’s predictions, the laptop and notebook models that may contain the recalled batteries include: the dv1xxx and ze2xxx series in the HP Pavilion line, nx48xx in the HP Compaq line, and V2xxx and M2xxx in the Compaq Presario line.
The CPSC advises anyone using a laptop with a battery that has a barcode starting with L3 to stop using it immediately and contact the nearest HP office. If it is confirmed to be a recalled battery, they will receive a replacement battery at no charge.
