The number of weapons found in Germany reveals the shocking technological level of another human species at a time when Homo sapiens was just “taking its first steps” into existence.
According to Heritage Daily, a special collection of weapons has been discovered in Schöningen, a small town in Lower Saxony, Germany, primarily used by ancient human species that existed before modern humans appeared on Earth.
Wooden weapons crafted with an “unbelievable” level of skill by ancient human species predating Homo sapiens.
A publication in the journal PNAS states that these artifacts revealed sophisticated woodworking techniques used by prehistoric peoples for hunting and processing animal hides.
This finding is utterly shocking, as the dating of this weapons cache reaches 300,000 years, coinciding with the period when Homo sapiens had just emerged on the planet.
Neanderthals and other ancient humans may have mastered woodworking long before “modern humans” – (Graphic image).
Thus, even before our species, often referred to as “modern humans,” emerged, the world of humanity had developed far beyond what we previously imagined.
The weapons cache has been thoroughly studied by archaeologists from the Lower Saxony State Office for Heritage (NLD), the University of Göttingen (Germany), and the University of Reading (UK).
A total of 20 special spear and throwing stick weapons were utilized by Neanderthals and other contemporaneous human species. At that time, Homo sapiens had just appeared and were still in Africa, making it clear that our ancestors could not have contributed to this technology.
Dr. Dirk Leder from NLD stated that the ancient humans in the area collected spruce and pine wood extensively, selecting beautiful trees to craft into spears and throwing sticks before bringing them to this site for manufacturing.
This ancient “workshop” was also a place for repairing damaged tools.
The owners of this weapons cache and woodworking workshop have not been specifically analyzed, but this area has been identified as having footprints of Neanderthal humans and some other species within the Homo genus alongside Homo sapiens.
Among ancient human species, Neanderthals are the most famous for their tool-making skills, weapons, and “timeless” jewelry. They are also the only species with a brain larger than that of modern humans, although their functionality was more limited.
