For over a week now, the residents of Tan Phong village, Duy Chau commune, Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province, have been buzzing about a phenomenon involving a stone tree. This unusual occurrence has attracted local attention, yet there has been no involvement from local authorities or scientists.
Spending 17 million VND to purchase these stone blocks is not a trivial matter for a farmer, but Vo Van Bay from Duy Chau commune has managed to do just that. His passion for stones, coupled with a fascination for the unusual, has led him to invest his time and money to enrich his stone collection. Many traders have approached him with offers of tens of thousands of dollars for the “stone tree,” but Bay has declined all offers.
Vo Van Bay stated: “Simply put, it’s because of my passion for stones. My whole life revolves around stones and metals, so I like them and buy them.“
According to Bay, over four months ago, those extracting earth and stones in Duy Phu commune and near the My Son temple complex (Duy Xuyen) discovered this type of stone tree, which he then purchased from them. Following this unusual phenomenon, many curious locals have come to see the “stone tree.” Some believe it to be a fossilized form.
Vo Van Nam, a resident of Duy Chau commune, remarked: “This phenomenon is very strange. None of us have seen anything like it in our lifetimes. In my opinion, this is a volcanic phenomenon…“
There are numerous interpretations and explanations regarding the “stone tree” phenomenon, but all remain speculative. What’s noteworthy is that, despite the buzz surrounding this occurrence, local authorities and relevant departments seem to be unaware of it.
While fossilized trees have been observed around the world, they are exceedingly rare in Vietnam. If this is indeed a type of fossilized tree, scientists could gain valuable insight into the geological and environmental conditions of this region that existed millions of years ago.
