HP in the Asia-Pacific region has announced a free battery replacement program for 3,768 laptop battery units across several models of HP and Compaq laptops.
This is a voluntary global battery recall program conducted in collaboration with HP and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
In 2005, the number of laptop batteries involved in this program in the Asia-Pacific region accounted for 0.23% of the total number of batteries used in the area (including Japan) – data based on a report from IDC in the Asia-Pacific region in Q4 2005.
HP and battery manufacturers have identified that the batteries being recalled were produced between January 1, 2005, and October 1, 2005. According to HP’s assessment, these battery units may pose safety risks to customers. To date, there have been 20 reported incidents, including 11 cases of minor property damage and one case of minor health injury.
The types of batteries included in this program are for the following laptops: HP Pavilion dv1000 series; Compaq Presario V2000 series; M2000 series; HP Pavilion ze2000 series; HP Compaq nx4800 series.
