A strong earthquake has shaken Mangnai City, located in the northwest of China, this morning (April 4).
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC), the earthquake measured 5.5 on the Richter scale and occurred at 8:39 AM local time on April 4, with an epicenter depth of only 10 km.
The epicenter was located in Huatuokou Town, 17 km from Mangnai City and 978 km from the city of Xining.
China Central Television (CCTV) reported information from the Propaganda Department of the Mangnai Municipal Party Committee, indicating that the earthquake was felt clearly at the aforementioned time.
Currently, there have been no reports of casualties or property damage.

For now, some vehicles and personnel from the forward team in Mangnai have been dispatched to the disaster area to assess the situation.
Mangnai is a county-level city under the Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Hainan, Qinghai Province.
According to China News, there are also reports of tremors in Dunhuang City (Gansu Province), Ruoqiang Town, and many other places in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region.
In December 2023, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake occurred in the border area between Gansu and Qinghai provinces at midnight. The epicenter was located 10 km deep in the autonomous county of Zishashan, which is part of the Hui Autonomous Prefecture of Linxia, Gansu Province.
Following the earthquake, hundreds of aftershocks were recorded. The death toll from this earthquake was 113, with 536 people injured. This is the deadliest earthquake since the quake that struck Yushu County in Qinghai Province in 2010.
Yesterday (April 3), a strong earthquake caused power outages in many areas of Hualien City and Taipei in Taiwan (China). Chinese media reported that the tremors from this earthquake could be felt in cities such as Shanghai, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou, and Ningde in mainland China.
The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that a strong 6.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Fukushima area in northeastern Japan on April 4, but no tsunami warning was issued.
Currently, there are no reports of damage or casualties following the earthquake with an epicenter at a depth of 40 km. The tremor was also felt in Tokyo.
The United States Geological Survey estimated the magnitude of the April 4 earthquake at 6.1 at a depth of approximately 40.1 km.
The strongest earthquake ever recorded in Japan was a 9.0 magnitude quake that struck off the northeastern coast in March 2011, causing a tsunami that resulted in approximately 18,500 deaths and disappearances.
