Snakehead fish, tilapia, goby, and lạc fish are beneficial for individuals suffering from joint pain, effectively improving their condition.
Many people experience joint pain due to external factors such as cold weather or rain. Dr. Nguyen Tran Nhu Thuy from Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy – Campus 3, states that traditional medicine often treats such conditions by combining medication with pain relief methods like warm acupuncture, electrical acupuncture, acupressure, massages with ginger oil or mugwort oil, warm herbal compresses, herbal steaming, herbal foot baths, or thread embedding and light acupuncture. Additionally, a suitable diet and exercise regimen can help prevent and significantly improve the condition.
Doctors recommend having at least two meals a week that include fish or more, as this helps prevent illness and supports treatment for those with joint pain in the family.
Dr. Thuy suggests several nutritious types of fish that are very beneficial for these patients.
Snakehead Fish
Snakehead fish has a sweet taste and a neutral nature. Its meat helps to eliminate dampness and wind, clear heat, nourish qi and blood, strengthen bones and tendons, and is beneficial for pregnant women. Dishes made from snakehead fish are good for those suffering from muscle and joint pain.

Tilapia has a sweet taste, a neutral nature, and is non-toxic. It helps to nourish qi and blood, supports the spleen and kidneys, and strengthens bones and tendons. However, care should be taken during preparation and consumption due to its small bones.
Goby
Goby also has a sweet taste and a neutral nature. This fish is generally safe for most patients’ health conditions.

Lạc Fish
Lạc fish has a sweet taste, a neutral nature, and is non-toxic. It is effective for detoxification, treating numbness, back pain, and knee discomfort.
Modern medicine also encourages elderly patients to keep their bodies warm, especially their limbs and chest. Patients should engage in suitable physical activity and exercise, maintain a balanced diet rich in vitamin D and calcium, lose weight if possible, or maintain an ideal weight. Any pain relief medications should be prescribed by a doctor after examination and evaluation.
