The following animal species have unique mating behaviors. Among them, one species is a famous delicacy in Vietnam.
1. Civet: Normally a gentle creature, the mating method of civets is known to be quite violent. The male follows the female by the scent of her urine. If both are willing, the male will mount the female and hold her tightly by wrapping his arms around her neck. He grips her so firmly that after mating, the female’s neck swells and her back is scratched. Mating can last up to 24 hours, during which the female lies with her eyes half-closed, lowering her head as if she is enjoying it. However, if the male is aggressive, he may kill his mate during the process.
2. Scorpion: On a moonless night, the male scorpion approaches the female and flirts for about 10 to 20 minutes. At the right moment, the male grabs the female’s pincers and holds tight. They then dance around on the ground for the entire next day. While dancing, the male releases sperm, which the female absorbs into her body. This process is both romantic and dangerous, as the male must be careful not to let the female’s pincers sting his head.
3. Clam: A famous delicacy from Quang Ninh, Vietnam, clams are quite small in size and weight. However, when comparing their “private parts” to their body, they possess the most sensitive organs on Earth, being ten times bigger than their body size. To mate, the clam’s “private part” acts like a fishing rod, drifting in hopes of touching the female.
4. Giraffe: One of the animals with the most unusual mating behaviors on Earth, these large but somewhat awkward creatures typically perform a provocative act by nudging their partner’s hindquarters with their noses until the female giraffe urinates. They then taste the urine to see if the female’s flavor is suitable before deciding to “cooperate.” Once a mate is chosen, the male giraffe will persistently pursue them!
5. Anglerfish: Considered one of the ugliest fish, anglerfish live year-round on the ocean floor, and their mating needs are quite simple, primarily focused on reproduction. The male quickly finds a large female anglerfish, bites a piece near her belly fin, and parasitizes her for life. When the male bites the female, he secretes an enzyme that permeates through her skin and merges with her, allowing his sperm to enter her body.
6. Water Spider: The male water spider will stop at nothing, even threatening to kill his mate to achieve copulation. First, he jumps onto the female’s back. If she resists, he creates water waves to lure predators until the female gives in and is ready to mate.
