Mr. Hoang Van Khanh, Chairman of Duc Long Commune, reported that the first wallaby was found and captured on the evening of November 8. The following day, residents spotted two more near the roadside, close to a thicket of bushes.
To capture the three wallabies, Duc Long Commune collaborated with the Thach An District Forest Protection Department, mobilizing about ten people to set up a net around them. Each wallaby weighed approximately 8-10 kg and was in good health. The Forest Protection Department is currently processing the paperwork to send them to the Hoang Lien Rescue, Conservation, and Development Center in Lao Cai.
Mr. Khanh mentioned that this is the first time wallabies have appeared in the area. Their origin is currently being investigated.
According to some experts, the wallabies in Cao Bang may be wallabies, also known as mini kangaroos. This species is commonly imported by many Vietnamese for ornamental purposes.
