Set in a ring, the blue diamond named Bleu Royal is one of the rarest diamonds ever unearthed.
Weighing 17.6 carats, Bleu Royal had an estimated value of up to $50 million before being auctioned on November 6.
Mr. Max Fawcett, head of the jewelry department at Christie’s in Geneva, stated that this diamond is unique due to its deep blue color and its exquisite pear shape, which remains unaltered.
“It truly meets all the criteria, which is why we aimed to attract collectors from around the world, from the Far East to the USA,” he said.
In another auction on November 6, Christie’s sold a Rolex watch that Marlon Brando wore in the 1979 film Apocalypse Now for over 4.5 million Swiss francs (nearly $5 million). The actor had engraved his signature on the back to prevent it from being lost during filming. Two years prior, the watch was sold at auction for 2 million Swiss francs.
