Bobi, the world’s oldest dog, has been confirmed by a veterinarian to have passed away due to old age.
Hailing from Leiria, Portugal, Bobi is also the oldest dog ever recorded. The news of Bobi’s death was announced by American veterinarian Karen Becker on Facebook on the morning of October 23, as reported by The Straits Times.
“Although Bobi lived longer than any dog in history, the 11,478 days on Earth will never be enough for those who loved this dog,” wrote Dr. Becker.

Dr. Becker met Bobi in February after the dog was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the oldest living dog. She was also present at Bobi’s 31st birthday party on May 11, according to The Portugal News.
Revealing the secret to Bobi’s longevity, Leonel Costa, the dog’s owner, attributed it to good nutrition, regular exposure to nature, proper veterinary care, and love.
Bobi was a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a breed known for guarding livestock. This breed typically has a lifespan of 12 to 14 years. Bobi lived his entire life with the Costa family in the rural village of Conqueiros, Leiria, Portugal.
In 1992, Bobi’s information was registered with the Leiria Veterinary Health Authority. His age has also been verified by SIAC, a pet database authorized by the Portuguese government and managed by the National Union of Veterinarians.
Prior to Bobi, the oldest dog on record was Bluey, also raised in Portugal, who lived for 29 years and 5 months.
