The United States is the world’s dominant military power, so it’s no surprise that it also possesses the largest fleet of tanks. In total, the U.S. has over 45,000 armored fighting vehicles, including 2,640 main battle tanks and 12,800 tanks stored in reserves.
Russia ranks second, with an estimated 2,927 main battle tanks currently in operation. Russia is also allocating a substantial one-third of its budget to defense, which amounts to approximately 7.5% of its GDP.
China holds the third position and leads globally in the number of active main battle tanks. Interestingly, the Chinese Army does not have any armored vehicles in storage, which is not surprising given that China is rapidly modernizing its military, and reserves typically contain older models that are no longer in use.
