The footage was captured during the approach of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft to the Moon, ahead of its planned landing at the end of August.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced on August 6 that its Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft has successfully completed its first lunar orbit lowering maneuver after successfully approaching the Moon a day earlier.
The ground support team for Chandrayaan-3 recently shared a video on social media platform X—formerly known as Twitter—showcasing the spectacular views of the Moon captured by the spacecraft’s camera.
The next orbital lowering mission is scheduled for August 9. Following the orbital maneuvers, the spacecraft will aim for a soft landing on the Moon’s surface on August 23.
Chandrayaan-3, India’s third lunar exploration mission, was launched on July 14 with the goal of landing on the Moon.
If successful, India will become the fourth nation to achieve a soft landing on the lunar surface, following the United States, the former Soviet Union, and China. Furthermore, India could also be the first country to set foot on the Moon’s south pole.
