Acer has recently launched the Acer Aspire iDea 500 – a home entertainment center device. At the Computex Taipei 2006 international computer exhibition held in June, the Aspire iDea 500 received the Computex Best Choice Award.

offering high definition, Dolby® Digital Live surround sound, and DTS Connect. With DDR II system memory ranging from 1024MB to 2GB, it utilizes the latest low power consumption technology, allowing homeowners to transform their desktop computers into superb multimedia entertainment systems.
The Aspire iDea operates at a noise level of just 23 dBA when idle and 28 dBA under heavy load, making it virtually silent in a home environment.
Fully compatible with the latest Intel® Viiv™ technology and pre-installed with Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, the Aspire iDea offers users an easy way to manage and share digital content while providing instant access to global online entertainment services.
This device is capable of storing digital content for a large family. It can easily store digital photos, music, and movies on its 500GB hard drive. Additionally, the Aspire iDea comes with an integrated DVD-SuperMulti drive that can write 8.5GB of data with just a push of a button, along with an 8-in-1 card reader for quick access to data from various storage cards.
The Aspire iDea 500 is equipped with two mini-PCI TV tuner cards, allowing users to simultaneously watch and record digital and analog TV signals. The In and Out jacks for cables or antennas ensure that there is no need for a permanent connection to the home theater system, while still allowing for easy installation and recording of programs.

In addition to connection options such as 1 DVI-I port, 3 AV output ports (AV-input), 1 FM antenna jack, and 2 IR Blaster ports, the Aspire iDea also offers a 7.1 audio output (8 channels) supporting S/PDIF for digital sound, 4 USB ports (2 of which are located at the front), and 1 IEEE1394 port for connecting digital cameras and video playback devices, making this a truly compact home multimedia entertainment device.
The Aspire iDea 500 can wirelessly connect to the home network via a built-in mini-PCI 802.11b/g network card with an external antenna, providing continuous access to online entertainment resources. Additionally, the Aspire iDea can be connected to a local area network via a Gigabit Ethernet network card.
The Aspire iDea 500 comes with a remote control compatible with Microsoft® Media Center Edition and a wireless keyboard integrated with a mouse (using 2.4GHz radio waves), ensuring users can control the system from anywhere in the room.
