Researchers from the University of Wisconsin (USA) have recently discovered a virus that causes obesity, which has the potential to increase fat reserves in animal bodies.
In previous studies, this research team concluded that the Ad-36 virus increases fat content while simultaneously reducing cholesterol and triglyceride levels in chickens, mice, and primates.
The researchers believe that viruses belonging to the Adenovirus group play an important role in explaining the rising obesity epidemic worldwide, despite scientific efforts to influence patients’ diets and exercise habits.
Adenoviruses are spread through direct contact and often cause respiratory illnesses. Depending on the type of virus, they can also lead to gastrointestinal diseases, eye infections, kidney infections, or rabies.
