On May 7, 1954, the Điện Biên Phủ Campaign achieved victory, playing a decisive role in ending the resistance against French colonialism. 69 years have passed, and the war is now a distant memory; the former battlegrounds have transformed into historical sites, bearing witness to numerous stories from a time of fierce bombings and flames: the Command Center of the Campaign in Mường Phăng, Hill A1, the De Castries bunker, the Điện Biên Phủ Historical Victory Museum…
During this historic May, many visitors from across the country and international tourists return to Điện Biên, where 69 years ago, our military and people achieved the historic victory of Điện Biên Phủ, “Renowned across the continents, shaking the globe.”
Today, visitors to Điện Biên can hear historical stories and the heroic feats from those glorious days of yore.
In particular, during this time, guests visiting the Điện Biên Phủ Historical Victory Museum have the opportunity to witness a panoramic depiction of the Điện Biên Phủ Campaign.
Regarded by domestic art critics as one of the largest war-themed paintings in the world, the artwork “The Battle of Điện Biên Phủ” is divided into four segments: The Entire Nation Goes to War, The Heroic Prelude, The Historic Confrontation, and Victory, creating a grand and vivid historical narrative through paintings about the Điện Biên Phủ Campaign.

Segment 3 ‘The Historic Confrontation’: Images of trenches, barbed wire, and hand-to-hand combat reflect the battlefield’s fierceness. The segment concludes with an image of smoke rising from an explosion on Hill A1.
Segment 4 ‘Victory’: In stark contrast to the images of French defeat, our troops are shown rising to seize the Điện Biên Phủ stronghold, highlighted by the flag “Determined to Fight, Determined to Win” of the Vietnam People’s Army waving above the bunker of General De Castries – a symbol of the victory in the Điện Biên Phủ Campaign.
The panorama painting, over 3,000m2, depicts 4,500 characters during the tragic final 56 days of the Điện Biên Phủ battle and was created by over 200 artists, awarded first prize at the Vietnam Fine Arts Association Awards in 2022.
