A security vulnerability in Adobe Systems’ graphic design software could allow users to illegally modify certain program files, potentially leading to data destruction or the installation of malicious software on computers.
According to Adobe’s warning, the vulnerability affects the Adobe Creative Suite 2 package, Adobe Photoshop CS2, and Adobe Illustrator CS2; it specifically occurs when the applications are running in multi-user shared installation mode.
If exploited, this security flaw could enable attackers to replace program files with malicious or harmful code, which could read, write, or destroy sensitive data if hackers log in with a user account that has high privileges (typically an administrator account).
Adobe has classified the vulnerability as “important” (the second-highest alert level after “critical”) and has released a security patch to fix this issue. Adobe recommends that users of Photoshop CS2 on shared systems, including Microsoft Windows and Mac OS, should promptly install the patch.
