Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) are often regarded as products of an extraterrestrial civilization. Over the past year, numerous stories about UFO sightings have been reported in the international press.
A flying saucer as envisioned by many people
UFO over the Yenisei River
The Russian newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda declared 2005 as the “bumper year for UFOs,” with 18 reported cases of flying saucers appearing in the country. Reports indicate that unidentified flying objects were sighted all over, from the outskirts of Moscow to the Far East and from the Arctic Ocean to distant southern regions.
“Last May, I took a relative to visit the Yenisei River to see the drifting ice. We stopped by the riverside to chat, take photos, and enjoy the scenery. Nobody heard or saw anything unusual. However, after printing the photos, we were startled to see several objects hovering in the sky captured by the camera.” This is the story of nurse Raisa Kireyeva, who lives in Igarka, Northern Russia. After making this discovery, Kireyeva took the negatives to the Permafrost Museum. Initially, museum experts were skeptical about her photograph of the strange object, but after analysis, they were also taken aback. The negatives were neither fabricated nor scratched in any way that could create unusual images. “We examined the film very carefully and enlarged the image several times, but the ‘flying saucer’ remained perfectly clear,” said Alexander Toshchev, the museum director.
Flying Saucer in Turkey?
For many years, mysterious flying objects have been spotted in the skies over Crimea, Southern Ukraine. The increasing reports of strange aerial phenomena prompted local astronomers to take action. After several months of surveillance, the research team finally detected a reddish-brown sphere flying over the Black Sea for about 10 minutes. As it flew, the sphere gradually changed color from red to pale yellow, leaving a trail of smoke behind. Scientists estimated the object could be as far as 400 km away. Some experts speculated that the UFO in this case might be a mysterious flying device being tested by Turkish authorities.
Strange Events in Yevseyevka Village
In September 2005, round, orange, glowing objects became the “companions” of the villagers in Yevseyevka, located in the Primorye region of Far Eastern Russia. At night, people observed glowing halos moving across the sky, blinking on and off. Occasionally, the halos would stop to change direction. At times, villagers even saw them emitting beams of light toward each other, with each halo shooting a beam down to the ground. On the night of September 7, a farmer named Yuri Galayev attempted to communicate with the strange objects. Upon seeing the glowing sphere in the sky, Galayev lit a torch and raised it high as a signal. He would turn it off and then back on intermittently. A few dozen seconds later, the fiery sphere responded with a signal.
The next morning, the Galayev family went out to their fields and suddenly discovered strange patterns etched onto a watermelon in their garden. Galayev recalled that the watermelon had appeared normal the day before, leading him to believe that the unusual patterns could be a message from the visitor the night before. He took the peculiar watermelon to the renowned biologist and UFO expert in Primorye, Valery Dvuzhilny. “I thoroughly examined the watermelon, both the cut and intact areas. The patterns on the rind were definitely not caused by insects, bacteria, or fungi, as they could not create such complex designs,” Dvuzhilny commented.
Galayev’s uniquely patterned watermelons were not the only case in Primorye. In September 2002, two watermelons with bizarre hieroglyphs were also discovered in the field of farmer Nikolai Schislyayev.
Incursion into Southern Philippines
Around noon on December 27, 2005, a photojournalist in Lumbangan village near Zamboanga City, Southern Philippines, captured an image of an object he was sure was a UFO. “I was photographing scrap miners on the hill without realizing that a flying saucer was hovering in the sky. It wasn’t until I reviewed the images on my computer that I discovered I had captured a UFO. I was truly shocked! It was unbelievable! In three pictures taken of the same scene, the UFO only appeared in one,” the witness recounted. He described the strange object as a dark metallic disc, with a small cap on top. The object made no sound or left a trail of smoke. At the time the flying saucer appeared, at least 70 scrap miners were on the hill, but it was unclear if anyone else had seen the UFO. The photojournalist reported the incident to the UFO Evidence research center based in the United States. “It’s not a bird or a plane; it’s a UFO!” he asserted.
This is not the first time someone has reported seeing a UFO in the Philippines. Previously, several witnesses claimed to have encountered UFOs in the years 1979, 2000, 2002, and 2004.

Most recently, a resident of Texas reported seeing a UFO at 8:30 PM on December 26, 2005. “I was outside in my yard using a telescope to stargaze. Then, I looked up at the sky with my naked eye to orient myself and noticed a blurry object flying at an altitude of about 2,000-5,000 feet (600 – 1,500m). It was flying southeast before suddenly veering southwest and then disappearing. The object was triangular with lights at the corners. I saw it for about 15-20 seconds. My house is not near an airport or military base, so it couldn’t have been a plane,” the witness recounted. This individual, currently pursuing a master’s degree, mentioned that he had previously doubted the existence of UFOs but now believes.
In April 2005, a tourist visiting Las Vegas managed to photograph a mysterious bright object in the city sky. “The camera was very good, so I could see this flying object clearly. It was not an airplane. I assert that it was a UFO, but you can believe or doubt that,” the witness said.
UFOs Remain a Mystery
Stories of unidentified flying objects date back to ancient times. Legends tell of Alexander the Great’s soldiers seeing “two silver shields” flying in the sky in 329 BC. Ancient Romans also mentioned “shields and warriors” appearing in mid-air. In 1235 and 1361, Japanese soldiers reported seeing mysterious halos in the sky and reported the incidents to the emperor. Historical records also recount that on April 14, 1561, the sky over Nuremberg, Germany, was filled with various cylindrical and spherical objects. Hundreds of witnesses later claimed that it seemed as if the flying objects were engaged in some sort of battle.
In the past century, many people have claimed to have seen UFOs. This has led to the formation of the belief that UFOs are products of extraterrestrial civilizations. There may be “humans” on some distant planet in the universe attempting to reach our Earth. Originating from this suspicion, numerous national and international research centers for UFOs have been established. However, to date, these centers have yet to obtain any scientific evidence of the existence of UFOs. Many believe that UFOs are merely products of imagination, while others suspect they are reconnaissance aircraft. It seems that unidentified flying objects will continue to be a mystery for humanity for a long time to come.
