The “all-in-one” system includes hardware, middleware, storage systems, and security measures. In addition to the POWER5+ processor, the dual-core system operating at 2.2 GHz enhances processing capabilities by 33% compared to the iSeries running on POWER5. IBM also supports the new version of the integrated operating system, i5/OS V5R4, which offers high security and information recovery, while virtual storage will ensure continuous operations. This server enables businesses to integrate and deploy over 6,400 business applications, continuing to develop operations while being aware of both predetermined and unforeseen incidents.
The System i5 demonstrates its ability to simplify IT operations through the integration of IBM BladeCenter servers and xSeries via the open standard iSCSI connection. The new integrated database management tool in i5/OS V5R4 can quickly identify and rectify database operational errors, significantly reducing testing and maintenance time.
Additionally, IBM offers several new features that boost operational speed, such as the 32-bit Java Virtual Machine, which reduces Java application costs, and multiple options for deploying service-oriented architecture (SOA) applications. The Capacity on Demand function allows the development of additional new applications without incurring extra operational or management costs for a second server. At the same time, IBM Accelerator enhances performance by allowing simultaneous operation of web-based solutions and group software on the same system. Furthermore, businesses can facilitate user experience through the expansion of applications using the WebFacing Deployment tool.
