The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications has granted permission for airlines including China Airlines, Asiana Airlines, Lufthansa German Airlines, Singapore Airlines Limited, Etihad Airways, and Korean Air to utilize the Connexion by Boeing (CbB) system to test in-flight internet access services while flying within Vietnamese airspace until May 30, 2007.
However, the aircraft of these airlines must be approved for operation by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
The CbB systems are authorized to use the frequency bands of 14.00 – 14.25 GHz for uplink (Earth to space) and 12.20 – 12.45 GHz for downlink (space to Earth), while ensuring that they do not interfere with other information systems.
The aforementioned airlines will not be allowed to use the CbB system while parked at or during takeoff and landing at Vietnamese airports.
