Scientists in the United States have discovered a hallucinogenic chemical in mushrooms that may help treat depression and anxiety.
A significant study has shown that the chemical component found in these mushrooms—psilocybin—can lead to lasting positive changes in personality and behavior.
In their research, scientists at Johns Hopkins University (USA) administered psilocybin capsules extracted from mushrooms to volunteers. These individuals reported improvements in their quality of life. Specifically, two months after taking the drug, 79% of participants indicated they experienced a significant or moderate increase in feelings of happiness or life satisfaction.
