Sonette Ehlers, a South African female scientist, has created a unique type of condom designed specifically for women: not for contraception or disease prevention, but to defend against potential attackers.
This innovative product is called Rapex, and it features sharp hooks on the inside. The usage is straightforward: before going to places where the risk of assault is higher (such as lively parties or bars), a woman can insert Rapex into her vagina. If an assault occurs, the sharp hooks will latch onto the perpetrator’s genitalia, forcing him to seek medical attention to have it removed, thus making it easier for the police to identify and apprehend him. Ehlers’ initiative has been warmly received by many women.
