After 500 days living alone in a dark cave 70 meters underground to explore how the human body and mind cope with extreme solitude and deprivation, Beatriz Flamini has emerged.
According to The Guardian, on November 20, 2021, elite athlete and Spanish adventurer Beatriz Flamini entered a cave near Granada, a city in southern Spain. Yesterday (April 14), after leaving the cave and undergoing a quick check-up by doctors and psychologists, Beatriz Flamini held a 15-minute press conference, where she attempted to explain the nearly inexplicable.
Speaking to reporters, she said: “I intended to go outside and take a shower. I did not expect to receive so much attention.”

During her time alone in the cave, the 50-year-old athlete from Madrid was monitored by a team of scientists from universities in Almería, Granada, and Murcia through a special limited messaging technology. Beatriz Flamini is believed to have broken the world record for the longest time spent living alone in a cave.

Flamini stated that she lost track of time after the 65th day. When asked how she managed to stay alert for so long, Flamini spoke about her personal experience and mental preparation. She shared that she spent 500 days in the cave calmly and purposefully by reading, writing, drawing, and knitting, enjoying her own company.
