An Australian research team has made a breakthrough in prostate cancer research by successfully using mouse tissue to grow human prostate tissue for the first time.
The team at the Monash Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne discovered this remarkable achievement after combining human ovarian stem cells with mouse prostate cells and transplanting them into mice.
Renea Taylor, a member of the research team, stated that previously, scientists had not found a way to observe healthy prostate tissue. She mentioned that this groundbreaking study will help researchers gain a better understanding of the development of prostate diseases.
Renea remarked: “This is a new application of ovarian stem cells, where we use them to benefit us scientifically and enhance our understanding in the laboratory. Now we have a model that makes it easier to test new clinical therapies for prostate cancer.”
