A type of fire extinguisher shaped like a sphere that can automatically decompose to release fire suppression agents immediately upon the occurrence of a fire incident has just been imported into Vietnam from Thailand.
This fire extinguisher ball is produced by Siam Safety Technology Co., Ltd. from Thailand and weighs only 1 kg.
Upon contact with flames, it decomposes automatically within just 3 seconds to release fire retardant chemicals and emits an audible alarm.
The fire extinguisher ball can self-activate at a temperature of about 70°C. Its fire suppression mechanism is based on the fact that it contains 95% Ammonium Phosphate, a chemical produced in Germany with a shelf life of up to 6 years.
Additionally, the ball contains a portion of gunpowder. When it decomposes in fire, the ball poses no harm to humans or pets at close range.
The lifespan of this fire extinguisher ball is 5 years, and it requires no maintenance or difficulty in refilling chemicals. The packaging and chemicals are non-harmful to people and animals. After its warranty period, the ball can be buried in the ground and used as fertilizer.
Mr. Nguyễn Chí Thiện, Deputy Director of Hoàng Việt Company, stated that this fire extinguisher ball can extinguish three types of fires: fires caused by petroleum products, electrical fires, and fires from common materials such as wood, paper, and fabric.
Currently, Hoàng Việt Company has imported thousands of these spherical fire extinguishers, with a wholesale price of 36 – 37 USD per unit and a retail price of 38 – 40 USD per unit.
However, these thousands of fire extinguishing balls are still awaiting inspection by authorities regarding their effectiveness in extinguishing fires.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Hoàng Văn Thắng, Head of the Fire Safety Inspection Team under the Fire Prevention and Fighting Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City, all equipment related to fire prevention and fighting, whether produced domestically or imported, must be tested for quality, type, and model in accordance with the Ministry of Public Security’s regulations.
The agency responsible for this inspection is the Fire Prevention and Fighting Police Department.
Lieutenant Colonel Hoàng Văn Thắng also mentioned that his team has guided two companies, including the company “Quê tôi”, on the procedures for inspecting this spherical fire extinguisher imported from Thailand. This is a completely new type of firefighting device compared to conventional types.
Companies importing this item will provide inspection documents from international agencies. This will facilitate easier consideration and re-inspection by authorities to determine whether this device meets Vietnam’s conditions for approval and circulation.
