Suspected H5N1 Case Reported
On the afternoon of November 3, the Chairman of the Bac Giang Provincial People’s Committee announced the outbreak of avian influenza in three communes: Yen Lu (Yen Dung), Van Trung, and Tang Tien (Viet Yen). Accordingly, the chairmen of the People’s Committees of Viet Yen and Yen Dung districts are responsible for immediately implementing epidemic prevention measures.
The provincial chairman also directed the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, along with members of the epidemic prevention steering committee, to ensure strict control over the situation, addressing issues promptly to prevent the spread of avian influenza.
In recent days, the outbreak has resulted in the illness and death of over 3,000 poultry in the Viet Yen and Yen Dung districts, with a particularly alarming 100% mortality rate among waterfowl (geese, ducks) in affected households.
* In a conversation with Tuoi Tre on the evening of November 3, Mr. Hoang Van Nam, Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Health under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, confirmed that the agency had inspected and directed Bac Giang to announce the avian influenza outbreak on the same afternoon.
Mr. Nam indicated that the Department of Animal Health had previously dispatched officials to the two districts of Yen Dung and Viet Yen to guide veterinary officials and local authorities in implementing emergency epidemic prevention measures rigorously.
* On the afternoon of November 3, Bac Giang General Hospital admitted a patient exhibiting symptoms of high fever and difficulty breathing. The patient, identified as T.T.H., 24 years old and seven months pregnant, resides in Viet Yen (the area recently declared an outbreak site). At the hospital, doctors suspected that patient H. was infected with H5N1 and proceeded to isolate her in the infectious disease department, collecting samples for testing in Hanoi. Previously, there had been an unexplained death of a flock of ducks at patient H.’s home.
