Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer believes that the latest lawsuit from Symantec against his company will not hinder the launch of Vista.
When asked whether Microsoft’s copyright lawsuit would affect the launch of Windows Vista, Ballmer asserted: “I don’t want to speculate on anything, let the court decide.”
Last weekend, Symantec filed a lawsuit against Microsoft, alleging that the software giant had unlawfully used the company’s trade secrets in the Windows Vista version. Symantec is seeking to have Microsoft halt further development, sales, and distribution of Vista and other products until all of Symantec’s intellectual property rights are resolved.
The lawsuit has been filed in federal court in Seattle, USA, accusing Microsoft of violating the terms of the Volume Manager agreement with Veritas.
This can be seen as the latest blow to Microsoft and Windows Vista, as the developers had to decide to push back the operating system’s launch from March of this year to January 2007.
CEO Ballmer believes that Microsoft postponed the Vista launch due to having set overly ambitious goals for the latest version of the Windows operating system.
“We have tried to incorporate too many new innovations into Vista. This seems to have exceeded the current software development capabilities.”
In response to questions regarding the delay of Vista, Ballmer stated: “I am the CEO, and I must take responsibility for this issue.”
