Considering the unique and groundbreaking eVTOL air taxis to enhance tourist experiences, Bình Định proposes a pilot project to the Ministry of Transport.
On October 29, the People’s Committee of Bình Định suggested that the Ministry of Transport review, report, and recommend to the Prime Minister for approval of a pilot project for air taxis in the province.
The eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) air taxi is a type of aircraft that takes off and lands vertically, powered by electricity, and can carry 4-5 passengers. According to the People’s Committee of Bình Định, this mode of transport is ideal for tourists to observe and appreciate the natural beauty from above.

The provincial leaders also evaluate this transportation method as “green, innovative, and unique,” with disruptive potential that facilitates easy movement without emitting harmful substances like cars and trains. These advantages align with Bình Định’s tourism development needs and sustainable development goals.
With these analyses, the People’s Committee of Bình Định believes there is a need for a trial plan, the establishment of a legal framework, and a roadmap for officially deploying this transportation mode.
The concept of eVTOL first emerged in 2009 when a video of NASA’s Puffin aircraft circulated widely. In recent years, several countries have been researching and developing this type of vehicle for transportation, including China, the USA, Germany, the UK, Singapore, and South Korea.
The Economist noted in June that China is developing air taxi technology more rapidly than other countries. By the end of 2023, the Civil Aviation Administration of China granted permission for the EH216-S air taxi from EHang. In July, EHang delivered 10 units to a travel company for operation. The company has partnered with entities in Hong Kong, Macau, and other cities in China to promote the use of this vehicle. This air taxi company has showcased its vehicle in the UAE.
