There is a super rare type of chicken egg that is as black as coal, selling for up to 1 million VND each and is highly sought after.
When mentioning chicken eggs, most people think of white, yellow, or light green colors. However, there is a type of egg that is uniquely black like coal. This is not artificially created but entirely natural.
This unusual egg comes from a breed of chicken known as Ayam Cemani, which is one of the rarest chicken breeds in the world.
Ayam Cemani is an incredibly special breed of chicken. This breed’s body is entirely jet black, resembling a chicken that just fell into a bucket of tar.

From the feet, claws, comb, beak to the tongue and throat, everything is black. Moreover, except for their dark red blood, their meat, bones, and internal organs are also black.
Of course, the eggshells of this chicken breed are also pitch black. The chicks that hatch are also black, unlike “the yellow-feathered chicks” of other breeds.
Due to these distinctive features, this breed is also nicknamed “black chicken.”
Their fascinating appearance is believed to be a complex rearrangement of genes.
Some researchers indicate that the reason the Ayam Cemani breed is black is due to a mutation that may have occurred thousands of years ago, enhancing the regulation of the EDN3 gene.
Ayam Cemani chickens originate from Java, Indonesia. In 1998, a Dutchman brought this unique black chicken breed to Europe. Since then, this breed has been bred in several other countries, including the UK and Poland.
However, having black bones, internal organs, and beaks seems not to affect the life of the Ayam Cemani breed. The inherent pitch-black color is the main factor that makes them the most expensive chicken breed in the world.
In fact, the super black meat is considered more valuable than regular chicken meat and may provide health benefits. Ayam Cemani chicken meat is believed to be beneficial for individuals with diabetes, anemia, menstrual pain, and postpartum depression.

As a result, the value of this breed is very high. Ayam Cemani chickens weigh between 1.5-2.5 kg and are priced at around 2,500 USD (approximately over 60 million VND).
A female Ayam Cemani can lay 60-70 eggs per year. Notably, Ayam Cemani eggs are very expensive, with each egg priced between 500,000-1,000,000 VND.
The people of Indonesia regard the Ayam Cemani black chicken as a rare pet, more important than other chicken breeds. Therefore, they often refer to this breed as “Lamborghini chicken” (after the famous supercar brand).
Ayam Cemani chickens have high resistance and can be raised in free-range or confined conditions. Their diet includes rice, insects, vegetables, corn, and industrial feed.
This breed is relatively easy to raise, maturing in 6-8 months. An adult rooster weighs 2.5-3 kg, while the hen weighs 2-2.5 kg. In Vietnam, many people have successfully raised this breed.
