The miners spotted the dark stone with a deep green hue while excavating at the Carnaiba Mine in the small town of Pindobacu, Brazil, according to TV Sao Francisco. They carefully chiseled away the surrounding earth and rocks to avoid damaging the precious stone.
According to local authorities, the giant jade stone has been sold to the owner of a nearby mining site. Marcio Jandir, the lawyer for the anonymous buyer, stated that they do not intend to keep the jade stone at home.
“We have completed all necessary procedures to obtain a certificate of origin as required by the National Mining Department. We have received the certificate, and the owner of the jade stone is entitled to transport it within Brazilian territory. He wishes to exhibit the stone in museums and libraries,” Jandir mentioned.
The jade could be cut and polished into gemstones totaling 200,000 carats, significantly increasing its value.
Previously, while mining gemstones in a remote area of Kachin State (Myanmar), miners also discovered a giant jade stone weighing 175 tons, measuring 2.7 meters in height, 5.5 meters in length, and 5.5 meters in width.
