Experts from the Cochrane Center (UK) state that wearing compression socks while flying long distances can reduce the risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) by 90%, a condition that can lead to blood clots and potentially fatal outcomes.
According to specialists, compression socks fit snugly around the calves, promoting better blood circulation in the legs and preventing blood clots from forming. Wearing socks during flights also helps passengers avoid the risk of leg swelling. DVT is more likely to occur when the body is dehydrated and in excessively humid conditions. Therefore, travelers should regularly drink water, move their legs, and occasionally stand up to walk around the cabin to stay relaxed.
