According to the National Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control, as of 6:30 AM on December 1, there are 59,739 houses in the South Central Coast region submerged in water. Among these, 4,704 households are cut off (Tuy An, Phu Yen) with some areas flooded up to 1-2 meters deep. Local authorities have evacuated 6,030 households to safe locations.
Thousands of houses in Dong Xuan District (Phu Yen) submerged in water
In recent days, the South Central Coast and Central Highlands regions have experienced prolonged heavy rainfall, with some areas receiving over 800 mm of rain; many locations have faced severe flooding, landslides, and traffic disruptions, affecting tens of thousands of households. Notably, in Binh Dinh (31,100 houses) and Phu Yen (28,639 houses), widespread flooding has occurred.
As of this morning, there have been 4 reported deaths and missing persons due to the floods (3 in Binh Dinh, 1 in Kon Tum). Heavy rainfall has caused flooding, landslides, and blockages on numerous roads, including National Highways 14H, 40B, Dong Truong Son (Quang Nam); National Highways 24, 24C (Quang Ngai); National Highway 1 (An Nhon bypass, Binh Dinh); National Highways 19C, 25, 27, 29 (Phu Yen) and several provincial roads and rural traffic routes.
Additionally, 641 hectares of rice and 188.5 hectares of crops in these provinces have been damaged; 2,858 poultry have died or been swept away by the floods. Furthermore, 1,540 meters of embankment and 17,143 meters of irrigation canals have been damaged (Binh Dinh), and 9,310 meters of riverbanks and streambanks have eroded (5,410 meters in Binh Dinh, 3,900 meters in Quang Ngai).
Heavy rain causes many roads in Phu Yen to be submerged
According to the National Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control, today (December 1), cold air continues to affect the Central Central Coast region. Tonight, the lowest temperatures in the Northern and North Central regions will drop significantly, generally ranging from 11-14 degrees Celsius, with mountainous areas between 7-10 degrees Celsius, and high mountain areas below 5 degrees Celsius; it will be cold, with some places experiencing severe cold. Frost is expected in high mountainous areas.
In the areas of Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, and the Southern Central Highlands, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, with localized moderate to heavy rain of 20-40 mm, and some areas exceeding 50 mm. There is a risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous regions and localized flooding in low-lying areas and riverbanks.
The National Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control has also requested the Northern and North Central provinces to closely monitor weather developments, severe cold, and respond accordingly. Specifically, the provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, and Gia Lai are to organize inspection teams to provide guidance at the local level; evacuate residents from flooded areas to safety; manage traffic in flooded areas, and direct the operation of reservoirs to mitigate flooding downstream.
