The cold air of intense strength has caused temperatures at Fansipan to drop below 0 degrees Celsius. With light rain and high humidity, snow has fallen on the summit of Fansipan, accumulating to about 2 cm.
Around 5 AM, the summit area of Fansipan, which stands at 3,143 meters in Lao Cai, experienced snowfall. This is the first time this year that snow has fallen here. At the top of Fansipan, a thick layer of snow, about 2 cm, covers the iconic summit area and the roofs of ancient Vietnamese pagodas.
The temperature measured on the morning of December 28 was 0 degrees Celsius, occasionally dropping to -5 degrees. Fansipan (3,143 meters) is the highest mountain in Vietnam, often referred to as the Roof of Indochina, located in Hoang Lien National Park, about 10 km from the center of Sa Pa town, Lao Cai.

At an altitude of 3,100 meters, snowfall covers the Kim Son Bao Thang Pagoda area. From here, it only takes 5 minutes to walk to the summit of Fansipan.
“Snow fell from early morning until 8:40 AM. The weather is now turning to light rain, and the snow is beginning to melt. Fansipan has now opened its doors to welcome tourists,” said Mai Quang Thien, a night staff member at Sun World Fansipan Legend, located at an altitude of 3,100 meters.

Flower and ornamental trees at the summit are covered with a thick layer of snow. Mr. Luu Minh Hai, former Director of the Lao Cai Meteorological and Hydrological Station, stated that the reason for the snowfall is due to a cold front sweeping down from the North, combined with wind convergence at an altitude of 1,500 meters. It is expected that in the coming days, snowfall will continue and thicken on the summit of Fansipan.
