Due to its somewhat reckless decision, the wildebeest paid a heavy price when it was taken down by two lions.
This dramatic scene was captured in the Maasai Mara National Reserve (Kenya).
Wildebeest vs Lions.
Specifically, a wildebeest was being attacked by a pack of hyenas, surrounded and bitten on the tail. Just as the battle was still undecided, a male lion and a female lion silently approached from a distance.
Upon noticing the presence of these predators, the hyena pack immediately abandoned their prey and quickly retreated. At this moment, the wildebeest had enough time to escape back to its herd. However, instead of fleeing, the animal chose to charge at the two lions.
Underestimating the capabilities of its adversaries, the wildebeest paid dearly for its reckless decision. Seeing the wildebeest charge, the lion proactively lay down on the ground, positioning itself with its prey on its back. This attack strategy not only allowed the lion to evade a potentially deadly charge but also enabled it to access the wildebeest’s weak points. Shortly after, the female lion clamped down on the wildebeest’s neck, allowing the male lion to take down the prey from behind. The hunt concluded swiftly thanks to their well-coordinated and highly effective tactics.
Wildebeests typically live in large herds, and in many cases, they even merge with zebra herds to create a strong community, thereby reducing the risk of being hunted by predators.
According to zoological studies, the survival rate from birth to adulthood for wildebeests is very low. However, in reality, wildebeests are not easy opponents to subdue.
