Witnessing cars parked on the street being covered by “caterpillars,” many people were understandably terrified. The incident was recorded in a town in Liaoning Province, China.
Caterpillars covering cars on the street create a terrifying sight.
In the clip, the road is covered with “caterpillars” of various sizes. They cling to cars parked on the street, creating a horrifying scene. Most shops and homes in the area invaded by the “caterpillar rain” had to close. Only a few residents were seen walking with umbrellas on the street.
The cause of this phenomenon remains unexplained, but according to Mother Nature Network, these creepy caterpillars may have fallen to the city after being swept away by the wind.
Another hypothesis suggests that the “caterpillars” are actually flowers from birch trees—a type of tree whose blossoms resemble the caterpillars curling up.
“These are not worms, caterpillars, or animals; they are just flower petals that have fallen from the trees,” commented one viewer. Some people believe the clip is staged, while others are convinced that they are indeed soft-bodied animals.
