In another clip, the black carp is hung up for weighing. The length of the fish is nearly equal to the height of a man standing next to it. It is reported that the giant black carp weighs 73kg.
According to local residents, fishing in the reservoir is prohibited, but the giant fish swam into their cage and died.
Black carp (Mylopharyngodon piceus) is a species of fish belonging to the carp family, and it is the only member of the genus Mylopharyngodon. Black carp are farmed for food and medicinal purposes. They can grow up to 1.5 meters in length and weigh as much as 61kg. Their diet consists of snails and other mollusks.
Together with grass carp, silver carp, and bighead carp, they are considered one of the four important combined aquaculture species in China and have been farmed for thousands of years. They are not widely distributed globally.
In China, black carp are the most preferred and the most expensive among the four aquaculture species, partly due to their diet and feeding habits.
