A giant Wels catfish weighing twice the average was caught by a group of British people while on vacation in Mequinenza, Spain.
The Mirror reports that the British group was fishing in Mequinenza, located in northeastern Spain, earlier last week. They were stunned to catch a Wels catfish that weighed over 110 kg and measured more than 2 meters in length. According to a tour guide, this was the largest catfish he had ever seen.
Even the local residents came to congratulate the British group. The catfish was later released back into the water and is still alive.

Daniel Storey, 31, from Carlisle, England, who has been fishing for 10 years, shared that he was surprised to catch such a gigantic catfish.
“Catching a giant fish is like something you dream of. I’ve never seen anything like it. I think it’s quite special because of the reaction from my friends,” Daniel exclaimed.
Daniel caught the catfish during a week-long fishing trip with two friends, Lewis Pattinson and Martin Irwin, both 32 years old. They spent about 40 minutes bringing the fish ashore from the Segre River using a boat.

Peter Irwin, 41, from Monster Catfishing Tours, the company that organized the fishing trip, was also present with the British group at that time.
He stated: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime event. I’ve seen people come fishing here for 20 years, but no one has caught a fish as big as this. It really was their lucky day.”
The Wels catfish has a long gray body, large eyes, and a big mouth. This species typically feeds on fish and birds.
